I'm asked all sorts of questions on a daily basis on dog related issues. Here are answers to some of the more common questions. Let me share with you the knowledge I've accumulated over the last twenty five years and give you my point of view.

cut1Hello, my name is Will Barton and I am the author of ‘Taking the Lead’.

I grew up in rural Gloucestershire, England. I have been fascinated by dogs since I was a toddler, and have been told by my mother that my third word was “Doggy!” and that I had to point out every dog in the street wherever we went.

After securing a degree in Animal Science at university, I worked for four years at Cheltenham Animal Shelter in Gloucestershire. I was the head trainer of the dangerous dogs unit. Many of these dogs had been given up as simply ‘bad dogs’, sent to the shelter by their owners who were unable to cope with them.

Pitbulls, Staffordshire bull terriers, Rottweilers, Mastiffs and German shepherds were some of the more common breeds I faced every day, and it was my job to assess their behaviour and act accordingly. Then I would devise a program for them and rehabilitate them so they could be rehomed with loving owners.

After 4 years of training dogs here, I achieved my dream and set up a dog training facility and kennels called ‘Good Dog’. I have been branded as the Phnom Penh Dog Whisperer by the local newspaper, the Phnom Penh Post!

cut3Why you should read this book?

It is the intention of this book to help dog owners have a more enjoyable, rewarding, and stress free time owning and caring for their dog.

Dogs are such amazing creatures and their qualities are often taken for granted. What other animal wants to communicate with us so much, wants to love and be loved by us so much, wants to please and protect us? There is no other creature on this planet that we have such a close bond with.

Dogs are also highly intelligent animals, so many owners assume that their dog will instinctively know where to pee, how to sit and stay, and come to call. But that’s rarely the case, so that’s where ‘Taking the Lead’ comes in.

Let’s educate ourselves and give our dogs a better deal. Let’s have a great time with our furry best friends!
